‘Nancy Drew’ is a Tv series of mysterious dramas following its main character, involved in the investigation into a murder case. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in Nancy’s life. ‘Nancy Drew’ was recorded mainly in British Columbia, especially in Vancouver and Port Coquitlam. The main photography for season 1 reportedly started on July 22, 2019, and was scheduled to end on April 7, 2020. However, it was abruptly suspended due to the Covid-19 epidemic on March 12, 2020. After that, it was suspended. it never started recording again, and the first season ended with episode 18.
Later, the second season began on September 29, 2020. There was a week-long break in between due to the COVID-19 test, and the recording finally ended on April 29, 2021. Similarly, the recording of season 3 took over. closed July 13, 2021, and was due to end sometime in late 2021.
British Columbia
The setting of the program is slightly different from that of the novels. The books are set in the mythical city of River Heights. But in this CW production, River Heights Drive is the street name where Nancy lives in Horseshoe Bay, Maine. Interestingly, ‘Nancy Drew’ was recorded in Horseshoe Bay, a community in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
The lobster shack known as The Claw is said to be located in an empty restaurant on Sunset Marina, Sea to Sky Highway. A small lighthouse was also included as part of the set. The City Center Motor Hotel in Vancouver puts on an exhibition like Mustang’s Motel. Drew’s house featured in the exhibition is known as a five-room historic building from 1911, located at 937 Moody Avenue in North Vancouver.
In episode 3 of season 2, we see the Bloedel Conservatory, which is a dome-shaped structure in the future. The Conservatory is located at the highest point in Vancouver and is home to more than 100 species of rare birds. Other locations in Vancouver include Whytecliff Park, 1711 Drummond Drive, Flour Bakery, Bruce Street & Royal Avenue, and North Vancouver Cemetery. Although the Covid-19 restrictions disrupted the recording process, the actors were delighted to return for the 3rd season recording.
North Shore Studios, located on North 555 Brooksbank Avenue in North Vancouver, is another important production area. With eight well-equipped sections, the studio has served as a recording studio for several films and TV programs.
“Nancy Drew.” Scenes of the Horseshoe Bay Police Department were filmed in Port Coquitlam City Hall. It is a suburb of British Columbia located 27 miles east of Vancouver. Riverview Mental Hospital in Coquitlam also appears as Velvet Masque Club in episode 6 of season 1. Larkspur Lane Sanitarium is part of this great combination. In addition, the North Lawn Building at Riverview Hospital is seen as a Seabury County Medical Examiner Facility.
The exhibition also showcases other areas in the picturesque province. Garry Point Park in Steveston, near Kuno Garden, appears in the second episode of the show. The Cecil Green Park House of the University of British Columbia stands as Owen Marvin’s luxury gala house that helps the needy from episode 5. A few outdoor scenes were shot at Bear Creek Park in Surrey.
