Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 5 sees Burnham and Bookstore arguing over a moral dilemma while on a prison rescue mission. The Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA) is back and serves as a catalyst for a change of events in episode 5. We learn about important discoveries about DMA. A natural anomaly study shows that it is not a natural business.
This means that some of the most intelligent creatures in the universe have made this mysterious event possible. Discovery sends chaos to employees, and speculation about your creator in abundance. We see Vance reveal the name of the type that may be forming DMA – Species 10C.
In the meantime, Culber has been working hard to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. However, it has been difficult for her. To alleviate some stress and have some treatment on his own, he goes to Kovich. He tells Culber he has a savior complex. Culber agrees.
While Stamets and Saru did their own analysis, they were greeted by a visiting Starfleet member, Ruon Tarka. He is a proud but very intelligent scientist who came to fix the DMA problem. Tarka also has a penchant to take command in his hands.
Without questioning or consulting with Saru or Stamets, Tarka begins his spore drive project. It involves creating solitude near Discovery. Unity will allow the vessel to break through within the anomaly. It will allow them to discover the true origin of DMA.
However, this spore drive project poses a significant risk to employee safety. Despite the high risk involved, Tarka continues with the project rubbing Saru and Stamets in an improper manner. Saru finally sees the dangers associated with this test accumulating. When it becomes too dangerous, Saru closes the temptation. At the end of the episode, you see Tarka getting a volunteer and sponsor of his spore drive project in Book.
