Brown’s non-fiction book Immodest Acts: The Life of a ******* Renaissance Italy, Paul Verhoeven’s French biopic follows the Italian nun Benedetta, who lives in the Mother of Abbey Theatrical Convent. Benedetta Movie Filming Locations
‘Benedetta’ was shot in Italy and France. Principal photography began in July 2018 and lasted until September 2018.
Although the film was set in Tuscany, the production team chose to locate other locations in Italy and France as well.
France
A significant portion of the filming took place in the War region, in the Provence-Alpes-City d’Azur region of southeastern France. Thoronet Abbey, located between the towns of Dragunnon and Brignols, stands for the interior of the Tuscan Convent in this picture.
The abbey was built for the Cistercian order in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. The establishment is famous for its stone architecture and is now a museum after restoration. The alleys and arcades featured in the film are part of Thoronet Abbey’s early buildings.
Interior scenes with the convent church were filmed in the La Roque-d’Antheron Commune in Silvacon Abbey. The former Cistercian monastery, Abbey is one of the earliest examples of Cistercian architecture of the 12th century and was built between 1175 and 1230. In 1443, the abbots were abandoned by the monks and transferred to special ownership.
“Benedetta.” In the 19th century, the French government purchased the church and began the restoration of its establishment. Although the church has lost its glory over the centuries, the image captures the building as best it can.
Italy
The filming of ‘Benedetta’ took place mainly in Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region. The movie was produced by the city of Bevagna in Perugia, where Piazza used Filippo Sylvester to paint the exterior of the convent. The medieval charm and architectural design of the square fit the image perfectly.
The historical center in Perugia is related to Florence in this picture. The center is famous for its many museums in and around the area. As a historic center, Perugia offers a magnificent window into Italy’s historical art and architecture.
Home to the European Renaissance, the Tuscany region is known for its magnificent natural scenery. Filming in Tuscany took place primarily in the mountain town of Montepulciano in the province of Siena in southern Tuscany. The film was shot in Porta al Prato on the Via de Graciano Nell Corso, where the city’s main street begins. After reconstruction in the 16th century, the gate was designed by Antonio da Sangal.
Filming in Tuscany also took place in the Val di Orcia, which stretches from the hills south of Siena to Monte Amita. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the protection of the landscape that has inspired many Renaissance people.
