In an interview with Variety, Paul Thomas Anderson explained why many of his films, including “Licorice Pizza”, take place in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. “I like the way it [San Fernando Valley] looks. I love the taste and smell of it. I do not know beyond what I like about it.
I’m deep in it and I’m distracted by this pull, and there’s a moment you go, ‘Are you really going to make another movie in the 70s in Los Angeles? Are there? Don’t you think you did? ‘ Then you will ignore that voice and repel like a fly, ”he said. With ‘Licorice Pizza’, Anderson’s passion for the Valley and the city of LA continues.
