‘An Unexpected Christmas’ is a Christmas-themed celebration that tells the story of how Jamie meets his ex-girlfriend Emily when he returns home for the holidays. He has not yet told his family members about the breakup, with which they feel they are still together. In order not to ruin Christmas for his family, Jamie persuaded Emily to still act as a couple and participate in family traditions.
Trapped under the same roof the couple realized that there might be some spark still left between them. As the movie progresses, the magic of the holidays begins to unexpectedly turn their roles into re-emerging love. Directed by Michael Robison, the movie beautifully captures the warmth of love and family celebrations amidst some beautiful winter scenes.
An Unexpected Christmas Movie Filming Locations
‘An Unexpected Christmas’ is mainly filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Due to its convenient filming locations, high-tech production facilities, experienced staff, and tax incentives, British Columbia has been a popular filming destination for many movies and TV shows, including Hallmark Productions.
Principal photography was completed throughout September 2021.
Vancouver, British Columbia, was chosen as the main filming location for ‘An Unexpected Christmas’. To give a glimpse of the sets, the cast and crew shared some pictures and videos on their social media. Colorful Christmas decorations and fake snow were used to create the entire holiday season backdrop for the shoot.
In an interview with CT Insider, executive producer Matthew Brady said the team has very little time to prepare and shoot. During the 15 days of filming, the crew faced many challenges to the movie even in Vancouver weather.
When they were filming the winter scenes in September, the production unit endured torrential rains with temperatures of 85-90 degrees to complete filming. Creating a sense of icy winter in the midst of such conditions is a lot of work, though the cast and crew did an excellent job of making the audience feel the winter and the Christmas spirit.
Over the years, Vancouver has become a real hotbed for filmmaking and shooting due to its beautiful location, readily available production talent, and vast tax benefits. Many major television and movie productions have been filmed in the city, such as “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “Riverdale”.
