The Humans Daughter describes events that take place during the Blake family’s Thanksgiving dinner in a newly rented apartment. In the evening, family members share and experience the bonds and differences between each other. It is an adaptation of Karam’s award-winning monologue of the same name.
As the story progresses to detail the subtle skills and characteristics of the characters, viewers are also immersed in a low-lighting moody apartment in which the movie unfolds. While claustrophobia-inducing space develops as a character, no one can be curious about the weird apartment.

The Humans Movie Filming Locations
‘The Humans’ was shot entirely in New York. Major photography for the movie began on September 9, 2019, and was completed on October 26, 2019.

“The Humans” was filmed at Steiner’s Studio on 15 Washington Avenue in Brooklyn Borough, New York. Steiner Studios is the largest studio complex in the United States outside of Hollywood, with thirty soundstages for movie and television production. The 780,000-square-foot studio complex is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, providing impeccable facilities for movie production in the state of New York.
The exclusive apartment in ‘The Humans’ has been set up by the movie Production Design Department on the Soundstage at Steiner Studios. Filmmaker David Groppman designed the apartment in the backyard of his group of close friends. After the approval of director Stephen Karam, the designer converted almost the entire apartment into a sound stage.
Speaking to Variety, Gropman explained the way of thinking behind the set. “I’m trying to imagine, how can I create a very specific and somewhat mystical world that does not reveal itself at once? You have to start with reality. The audience has to believe your story, is there. To have a level of familiarity to them, to feel comfortable with the story being honest,” he said.
In addition to ‘The Humans’, Steiner Studios also filmed popular films such as ‘Bridge of Spice’, ‘The Joker’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street. In the case of television shows, the studio has produced ‘Hunters’, ‘Dickinson’, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Mycel’ and other famous productions.
