‘The Guilty is a remake of the 2018 eponymous Danish film called ‘Den Skyldige’. This follows Joe Baylor – a police detective who was dropped off at 911 – who received a disturbing phone call one morning from a woman who appeared to have been abducted by the name of Emily in the California wildfire. As Baylor focuses on Emily’s case, the dark facts are revealed by Baylor’s high-profile demolition and Emily’s shocking circumstances.
Playing in front of Jake Gyllenhaal, this criminal act explicitly exposes unpleasant and shocking revelations about ownership, judgment, police brutality, and mental health – all of which sit in a few phone conversations in two rooms.

The Guilty Filming Movie Locations
‘The Guilty was recorded in Los Angeles, California, during the outbreak of Covid-19. The recording started in November 2020 and ended in just 11 days.
California: Los Angeles Location
‘The Guilty movie is set in one location – 911 call center – in Los Angeles, & was also shot at one location in the Angels of California. Director Fuqua has revealed that he has chosen Los Angeles as the backbone of the movie because of its large desert location. A no man’s land in a strange way,” said Fuqua, explaining that the movie scene adds to the idea that Jake’s mysterious behavior, police detective Joe, is still in a dry and fiery furnace.
By the time the movie was shot, wildfires in California had been devastating us for almost a year, and the Black Lives Matter movement had taken over the city and the country. The effects of both events are embedded in the film’s emotional tapestry. Fuqua directed the entire film from a van with complete items far from the distance. This is because he had met a person who had been tested for Covid-19 2-3 days before the filming began.
Although Fuqua was tested negative for the virus, he had to be isolated according to safety guidelines. The problems that arose with not being able to physically set up were quite challenging, and the studio had to be specially prepared for long-distance communication.
When Gyllenhaal was set up, Riley Keough and Ethan Hawke, among other actors who included their voices in the movie, sat on Zoom, presenting and recording their conversations over the phone at their homes, receiving references via video. Extreme safety precautions were followed to maintain the Covid-19 virus. Coordinating actors and watchdogs should have been the norm for ‘Guilty’ to work.
The Los Angeles movie industry center has hosted more than a thousand film production over the past few decades. Not surprisingly, when the epidemic has dropped dramatically in many businesses, productions, and studios, Tinseltown and a few other cities can provide much-needed film scaling and urgency. “LA makes sense because it’s such a labyrinth for me, and I find it really interesting,” Fuqua said. Yes, Joe’s tumultuous journey to one place emotionally and morally in ‘The Guilty’ certainly reflects the chaos of Los Angeles. The Guilty.
