Wind River Movie Overview
The Wind River movie opens with Cory as Jeremy Renner, a local traveler living near Lander, Wyoming, who was called to hunt down a lion that killed local livestock in the nearby Wind River Reservation. He soon realizes that none but the 3 lions are limping and are traversing the frozen landscape. Instead, about 5 miles away, he finds the body of a woman, wounded and frozen to death, and sees her as the daughter of his friend Martin.
He called the national police chief, Ben, who also informed the FBI. Suddenly, Jane as Elizabeth Olsen, a young FBI agent, arrives at the scene, and it is clear from the moment she is out of her thing. As the locals work with him hesitantly, he struggles to adapt to the local forces and even has to borrow warm clothes since he has had to fly down from Las Vegas, (Wind River) where he was stationed. We also learn that Cory’s own daughter, Emily, died many years ago under mysterious circumstances.
It was soon discovered that the victim, Natalie, was raped and ran for miles before finally falling into the ice. The coroner determines the cause of death as a pulmonary hemorrhage, caused by breathing very cold air while working on a cold winter night.
Jane, who can ask the FBI team without a murder charge, is forced to ask Cory for help and, along with Ben, head to a nearby house where the body was found, which turned out to be new drug dealers. (Wind River) A small gunshot explodes in the house as the young criminals try to escape but are caught, with Natalie’s brother Chip as one of them. She is devastated when she learns of her sister’s death and mentions her boyfriend, Matt, who lives near the excavations where he works.
Is Jane Dead?
Jane and Ben, along with a few other members of the local army, go to the rink, which is located in a private area, while Cory heads to a nearby peak where he sees traces of sleds and is sure to find clues there. Once at an oil rink, Jane is told that Matt disappeared after an argument with his girlfriend.
When he asked to see his trailer, the staff acted suspiciously but agreed to take them to them. Along the way, there are tensions, and there are minor disagreements between employees and law enforcement officials. Jane, however, is in control of the situation, and they head for the trailer, where she appears to be sleeping with Pete, her roommate.
Meanwhile, Cory stumbles upon a lioness and her cubs and notices human remains nearby. He communicates with Ben by radio but is too late. Jane, Ben, and the officers were attacked by a rig crew who shot them all. Cory then arrived at the site, and he, in turn, shot down the rig crew with his long-range rifle. One of them, Pete, who also shot Jane, tries to escape when Cory grabs him and takes him to the top of a nearby hill.
As soon as the tracker receives a confession from the man, he releases it, even though he does not have gloves and boots. Fast enough, Pete’s limbs froze, and he fell into the snow as he tried to run away, bleeding. The movie then closes with Cory sitting with Martin and the two stare into the distance in the wilderness. Just before the closing of the movie, we see Cory visiting Jane who appears to be injured in the hospital.
From his painful circles when he laughs, it seems he has some very badly injured ribs. Cory also talks about a bulletproof vest that saved his life. Thus, even though he was shot at almost no distance, the FBI agent survived. She tells Cory that she has a responsibility to save her life, but the latter goes back to the fact that Jane herself is strong and saved her life.
The fate of some of the country’s top police officers remains unknown, but one of them, who was shot several times, almost died. We see the king, Ben, also fall slowly, but there may be a chance for him to recover from his wounds. However, given the number of law enforcement agents and the number of bullets fired at them, their chances of survival seem slim.
Who Killed Natalie?
After a brief reunion, as Jane knocked (Wind River) on Matt’s doorstep, we see Natalie visiting her boyfriend on the night of his tragic death. The two spent a night of love together but were interrupted by other rig staff, who returned drunk. Matt’s roommate Pete annoys the couple over and over and commits obscene acts on Natalie, even trying to remove the covers from her, until Matt loses control and beats Pete.
A riot broke out in which a group of men beats Matt, and Pete raped Natalie. Matt manages to distract the men, letting Natalie run away. According to Cory, who found her body, Natalie ran barefoot for four miles [6 km], in the bitter cold of winter, before fainting and dying from breathing too much cold air, which led to her lungs filled with blood that kept glistening. Wind River.
Matt, though the first suspect, was eventually found as a victim. He was beaten by his co-workers, and Pete later confessed to Cory that they had beaten the man to death. Although not specifically stated, it is said that the bones Cory saw outside the lion’s den belonged to Matt.
The men, (Wind River) after killing him, apparently took his body to a cage (his tracks saw Cory) and dumped his body somewhere on a nearby hill, where it was found and eaten by a lioness and her cubs. This is what Cory told Badi, but it was too late as the rig staff chose the same moment to attack the legal team.
What Happens to Pete?
Pete, who lives with Matt and basically triggers (Wind River) the situation that will lead to the deaths of Matt, Natalie, national police officers, and rig staff, is finally caught alive by Cory. The movie conveys a hidden but powerful message in which Jane, despite being an FBI agent, gives Cory her explicit permission to kill Pete instead of trying to keep her alive.
This is also in line with the wishes of Martin, Natalie’s father, who tells Cory to shoot the man responsible for his daughter’s death, and it all fits Cory’s character, who is a “hunter” and speaks again and again.
Pete is also being executed in an extremely appropriate manner. Cory takes him to the top of Gannett Peak, the highest mountain in Wyoming, and offers to give him a chance to survive if he confesses to his crimes. As soon as Pete confesses to raping Natalie and killing Matt, the trail cuts off the man’s bond and lets him go free.
However, without the boots or gloves, Pete gets the snow quickly. Corey says Natalie ran six miles [6 km] in the cold and did not expect Pete to pass more than 600 feet [6 m]. Indeed, after a short run, Pete collapses and begins to cough up blood, killing his lungs with a cold breath, like Natalie. Wind River.
