Amazon Studios quickly dismissed rumors that Nicole Kidman has left the set of upcoming series Expats after a split between the artist and the director. Expats, based on The Expatriates of Janice YK. Lee, is the next product of Amazon Studios following a united group of immigrants living in Hong Kong. The play is Kidman, Sarayu Blue, Jack Huston, and Ji-young Yoo, and is directed by Lulu Wang, best known for her work on The Farewell.
Nicole Kidman Walked Off ‘Expats’ Series Set
The Expats production has faced numerous scandals in the past few months, including negative news about Kidman’s release from detention when he arrived in Hong Kong in mid-August. The series has also been criticized for its focus on the rich, especially Caucasian immigrants, and Wang’s apathy towards the political turmoil that has plagued Hong Kong over the past two years.
Hong Kong media have also reported a dispute between Kidman and Wang over a dispute that allegedly took place in the street market. Kidman, who also recently made headlines for allegedly not breaking the character for five months on his new Hulu show, was back in the news recently when Hong Kong news agency HK01 reported that Kidman and Wang had a disagreement that led to the star’s departure.
According to Variety, the report, which has been downloaded by various Hong Kong media outlets, was publicly rejected by a spokesman for Amazon Studios. The spokesman said Kidman, due to his busy schedule and his obligations to other products, had left the product as scheduled. None of Amazon’s comments have anything to do with the reported creative differences between Kidman and Wang. The spokesman’s statement read as follows:
“Nicole was wrapped up as planned, she did not leave immediately. She always has other projects that she has committed to. The product is not suspended or paused, it would continue to shoot without him. “
Although it has not yet been officially confirmed, it has been reported that Kidman will be re-launching his position as Atlanna in Aquaman 2, which could be one of the “other projects” for the spokeswoman. Many similar Hong Kong stores that have reported various Expats privacy issues have also reported that Kidman left the Hong Kong program which was scheduled to go to Australia and that the UK recorded his role in Aquaman 2 and that he could soon return to China to finish recording Expats.
As an Amazon spokesman points out, it may be true that Kidman leaving Expats set on time and was expected, but a failure to address previous reports of creative differences between Kidman and Wang suggests that there may be something to the allegations. It is not yet clear what role Kidd is playing in the show, but, in addition to being a major producer, Kidman will be appearing in all six episodes, which means he is likely to be a major character.
When a big creative difference arises between a star and a director it usually doesn’t go well with the product, but audiences will have to wait and see if Expats can overcome its notoriety when it is finally released on Amazon Prime. No show release date set yet.
