Disney reportedly has only three weeks to decide whether Marvel’s upcoming Eternals movie will remain a theater or if it will be released in a hybrid. The upcoming movie is directed by Academy Award winner Cloé Zhao and will present a completely new team of heroes at the MCU, the second movie from the fridge to do so this year after Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.
However, the big question mark surrounding the release of the Eternals, as well as many more of the 2021 schedule, is whether it will face some delays or receive a hybrid release.

Disney Have Three Weeks To Decide On Eternals Movie Release Date
In July, Marvel built up their 2021 total by taking the Black Widow out of theaters and Disney + at the same time. The move has led Scarlett Johansson to sue Disney for the loss of backend profits, a lawsuit that has sparked discussions in the industry surrounding a flexible release area that has changed during the epidemic. However, reports indicate that the release of the Eternals depends on the performance of Shang-Chi’s office, which makes next weekend a major factor in the future of Marvel’s slide.
Now, a new report from Yahoo shows that Disney is still deciding what to do with the Eternals – and they have two to three weeks to make that decision. The studio reportedly is considering a mixed release similar to Black Widow for the movie and the report also confirms that the decision may be based on the performance of the Shang-Chi box.
Right now, Shang-Chi is tracking breaking office records this Labor Day weekend, but it is unclear if that will be enough to boost Disney’s confidence in a special Eternals theater. Not only does Delta’s diversity continue to spread around the US, making moviegoers more cautious about going to the theater, but many major studios are starting to delay their upcoming films or sell them to streamers. Top Gun: Maverick was recently installed in 2022 and conflicting reports emerged as to whether Venom or not: We can expect the Eternals Action Movie will be released on November 5, 2021.
Disney can also have its reasons for wanting a permanent inclusion in Disney +. The Black Widow received a whopping $ 125 million from the streamer, money that the studio should not share with advertisers. However, that movie had the potential to feature one of Marvel’s biggest names, making the Eternals a question mark as an untested asset. However, the immense starry power attached to this movie should be enough to attract decent audiences to theaters and Disney + if the studio were to go that way.
