Marshall ’is a movie about people’s lives that focuses on the first case nominated by airline lawyer and social activist Thurgood Marshall in 1941. The junior attorney for the NAACP went on to become the first African High Court Judge. In the movie, he takes the case of State of Connecticut v. Joseph Spell, where the defendant, an African American man, is accused of raping his employer.
The movie follows the case in detail and attempts to honestly reflect on the social and political context of the 1940s, making the case very important and shocking. The timing of the movie’s detailed presentation provides an ideal background for a heavy subject and creates an attractive clock.
Marshall Filming Movie Locations
‘Marshall’ was recorded mostly in New York State, although (News) some of the scenes seemed to have been shot in Los Angeles, California. The movie is set mainly in Connecticut, where the trial is taking place. Lensing began in mid-December 2015 with the first recording in California, after which production moved to New York. The recording in the Western New York area appears to have ended on July 1, 2016.
Buffalo, New York Location
The city of Buffalo in New York was used extensively for its Marshall movie production. The city boasts of a variety of time-honored buildings that have provided filmmakers with a suitable backdrop. Buffalo represents the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut, where most of the movies are set.
The recording took place in many parts of Buffalo, including Buffalo City Hall at 65 Niagara Square, Michael J. Dillon Memorial United States Courthouse at 68 Court Street, and Delaware Park on Meadow Drive. Buffalo Central Terminal with 495 Paderewski Drive features in this movie. Repairs and long-term repairs have been made following years of abandonment. Therefore, the production team had to work hard in the area to provide it with movie conversion.
You may also recognize Buffalo Club as a photography site; located at 388 Delaware Avenue. In addition, Statia City’s Niagara Room, a wedding venue at 107 Delaware Avenue, represents Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem.
Erie County, New York Location
Marshall Production workers have used many facilities in Erie County, New York, especially Daemen College in Amherst. The college-owned building was used to showcase Eleanor Strubing’s home, where the recording reportedly took place on the first and second floors. In addition, the exterior explosion of the building also appears in an important part of the movie.
The house is reportedly the president’s residence at Daemen College and appears to be close to the college on Main Street. Sources revealed that changes were being made to the house to make it sound better in the 1940s for the purpose of recording. In addition, the town of Orchard Park in Erie County was used for temporary recording. An important sequence of the lake was recorded at Parkview Bridge in Akron Falls Park.
Niagara Community Library at 8728 Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls, and Genesee County Courthouse at 1 West Main Street in Batavia, have been used to add lenses.
Los Angeles, California Location
The Marshall recording also appears to have taken place in Los Angeles, California, in the early days of production and may include studio recording. The recording equipment available in Los Angeles is one of the best in the world. Producers may have found most of their studios and non-locations where they were shot in Los Angeles before heading to New York to shoot a sequence that required time-building.
