‘Cliffhanger’ is a survival movie that tells the story of Gabriel “Gabe” Walker as Sylvester Stallone, a former mountaineer and former lifeguard, who finds himself and his estranged friend Harold “Hal” Tucker as Michael Rooker no doubt helps the criminal gang’s efforts to recover the $ 100 million they stole from a US Treasury plane.

Cliffhanger Filming Movie Locations
Cliffhanger, Renny Harlin, cinematographer Alex Thomson, and all the actors and staff shot the movie especially in the Dolomite Mountains, near Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The director reportedly decided not to shoot the movie in Colorado because he found that the Rocky Mountains were too old and round and had not received much filming.
Some Cliffhanger movie scenes were filmed in other parts of Italy, including Rome. A group of producers shot several scenes in a Colorado area. The main shooting took place on April 11, 1992, and ended on August 19, 1992. Let’s take a closer look at some of the locations.
The Dolomite Mountains, Italy Location
Located in northeastern Italy, the Dolomite Mountains are part of the expanded Southern Limestone Alps. The various locations seen in the Dolomites appear throughout the movie. The site of the death of Hal’s Sarah’s girlfriend (Michelle Joyner) is recorded in the Vajolet Towers, the six Dolomites’ concerts in Val di Fassa or Fassa Valley.
Scenes showing all the climbs were shot at the Tofane Group, which is made up of three peaks: south of Tofana di Rozes, in the middle of Tofana di Mezzo, and north of Tofana di Dentro. Rome, Italy Location
Some of the interior scenes are filmed at Cinecittà (Cinecittà Studios), located in Via Tuscolana, 1055. Projects such as ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley ’and‘ Once upon a Time in America ’were also shot in the Italian capital.
Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy Location
Located in the heart of the Dolomites, Cortina d’Ampezzo is a beautiful and humorous town. In the final part of the movie, the city appears briefly on the screen with a shotgun fired at the top of a Funivia Faloria or Faloria Cable Car. During their time in Cortina, the staff worked at Rifugio Lagazuoi, a hotel on the summit of Mount Lagazuoi. In the movie, the hotel emerges as a dormitory in Colorado. The Sentiero Ferrato Astaldi mountain trail is also featured in the movie.
Scenes of the bridge were filmed in Monte Cristallo and surrounding areas by Ferrata VF Ivano Dibona in the state of Belluno, Veneto. Damaged for explosions during the shooting. However, soon after the recording was completed, the bridge was rebuilt.
