The North Water Series Filming Locations
The main filming of the first episode of ‘The North Water’ started on September 14, 2019, and ended on September 24, 2020. Completion of the recording was delayed due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. The series has also been shot in Hungary, Norway, Canada, and England. Let’s take a closer look at some of the places where recordings are made.
Svalbard, Norway Location
Svalbard (formerly known as Spitsbergen or Spitzbergen), an archipelago in the Norwegian Arctic, is one of the most important sculptures in the game. Episodes of the exhibition were filmed extensively near Svalbard and the intertwined parts of the sea. Other scenes were also shot in Longyearbyen and near the capital, Svalbard.
The boat, which can be seen sailing on the icy ice of the Arctic Ocean in the game, is a three-foot-long [3 m] boat named Activ of London, built in Denmark. The ship itself serves as a starting point and exhibition space.
Actors and crew members tried to reach 81 degrees North to follow the film sequence on the ice pack. In doing so, the series was recorded at the northernmost point of the game ever shot. “When I first read this book, I loved it, and it was so cruel and beautiful. And the nature of the story, in the Arctic Ocean, looked very good in this novel, and I wanted to try to repeat it somehow, ”creator Andrew Haigh told IGN while explaining the motive for filming the series in some of the worst weather conditions.
Basingstoke, England Location
The North Water, Basingstoke is one of the last places for players and staff to visit to record the series. Due to Covid-19 international restrictions, the recording had to be stopped in Budapest. A few months later, production resumed at the studio in Basingstoke in the UK, where the group reportedly continued the last four days of shooting. The city is located in the Hampshire region of the south-central part of England.
Budapest, Hungary Location
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the first places to visit with actors to make a film. The North Water shooting of the mysterious exhibition took place in the city and surrounding areas. It is possible that some scenes were filmed near St. Louis.
The producers also shot scenes in the sets built at Astra Studios, located at 1-3 Napraforgó Street in Mogyoród, 12 miles from downtown Budapest.
Iqaluit, Canada Location
Iqaluit is also one of the exhibition’s exhibitions. The snow-covered city of northern Nunavut, Canada, has a magnificent climate that makes it an ideal place to record an exhibition. The North Water.
