The main shoot for ‘Candyman‘ started in August 2019 and ended in September of the same year. The film was shot under the title ‘Say My Name,’ in many parts of Chicago, Illinois.
Chicago, Illinois Location
The movie is set mainly in the area of Chabrini Green. Chabrini Green Homes was a real community-building project in the North American Chicago area. As can be seen from the movie, various local buildings were demolished between 1995 and 2011, leaving only modern homes. Some scenes have been filmed in the area in these rowing areas.
The filming of the movie also took place in the North Park community, especially in parts of North St. Louis Avenue. Actors also shot scenes in Marina City AKA The Corn Cob, a residential and commercial use building on State Street in the area near the North North Side. An important sequence was shot inside the Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 220 East Chicago Avenue in Cook County. The movie is the first production shot inside a history museum.
Other areas in Chicago where the recording is done include the Kenwood area in the southern part of the city, North Bernard Street, and Foster Avenue. Several scenes were shot at Old Cook County Hospital located at 1901 West Harrison Street, which has already been upgraded as an intermediate hotel complex;
In an interview with Chicago Suntimes, director Nia DaCosta revealed that Marina City is her favorite filming place. He also visited the Cabrini Green Homes area to experience the day-to-day community. DaCosta said, “It’s really interesting the amount of development that has taken place in the community that doesn’t seem to be able to penetrate the community, which is part of what the movie is all about.”
Given Chicago’s influence on the narrative style and beauty of the previous movie, it’s no surprise that its makers want the next shot in the city. Other popular films filmed in Chicago are ‘Aquaman’ ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ and ‘The Devil All the Time.’
