Locke and Key Filming Locations
The show and comedy set ‘Locke and Key’ is the home of Rendell Locke’s grandfather Keyhouse in the fictional city of Matheson in Massachusetts. However, the producers knew that actually recording in Massachusetts would not be an effective method, instead, they chose to record at many locations throughout Canada including the city of Toronto and the coastal province of Nova Scotia.
Canada and in particular, Nova Scotia, is increasingly becoming a popular Hollywood film destination due to the promotion of films and refunds provided by the government to foreign products. Lindsey Springer, the show’s main producer, explains how they chose to nominate Nova Scotia for filming, “We talked to the film commission, saw a few pictures of the scene, scouted it, and liked it. We thought it should be this place. This is it. “
Actor Darby Stanchfield, who plays Nina Locke in the drama has posted this photo of herself and other actors on her Instagram account.
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia Location
‘Locke and Key’ also recorded several scenes in the historic city of Lunenburg in Nova Scotia, Canada. Lunenburg is a small port city on the South Shore of Nova Scotia founded about 270 years ago by British Protestants and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. To this day, Lunenburg retains its original shape and appearance in the 1800s, including the local wooden structure. The origin of Lunenburg is also considered to be the national center of Canadian history.
Locke and Key producer Barbara Muschietti explain her reason for choosing Lunenburg as a recording site, We Wanted the Sea, a beautiful little town. That’s what Lunenburg is in our eyes. “
Seventy producers arrived from Toronto and enlisted the help of a few local people to record, which took place in many attractive places such as Ovens Natural Park, downtown, cemetery, and gazebo. Check out this photo posted by Stanchfield while recording in Nova Scotia. You can even see the colorful buildings of Lunenburg in the background.
