Is Annette Movie a True Story?
No, ‘Annette Movie’ is not a true story. The movie tells the story of a fictional story imagined by brothers Ron and Russell Mael. The duo is best known as the two-piece band Sparks. The brothers have been promoting the project since 2012, and at first, it was not considered a film. It so happened that Sparks had launched ‘Annette’ as their next album in the form of an extended project. Shortly after completing the project, the brothers visited the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. At the ceremony, they met Leo Carax. The director used Sparks’ song entitled “How Do You Get Home?” in his film ‘Holy Motors.’
Sparks saw that Carax used his filmmaking talent in the same way that he used their musical talents. The brothers shared their work with ‘Annette’ and Carax and waited for his response. Carax was initially hesitant to look at this idea for fear that people would try to find similarities between the film and his private life. However, Carax finally agreed to make ‘Annette’ his next direction. The first idea went through some changes after Carax got on board. The director incorporated his worldview and sensitivity while transforming this concept from a music album to a cinema experience. Ron Mael told the deadline about how the filmmaker added to his impact on the idea.
“He made it very clear from the beginning, just because he is a filmmaker himself, that he would like to incorporate his sympathy into the film. But its foundation, along with many fragments, was what it was nine years ago. He felt indifferent that, as it was originally part of the theater, the characters were able to get along well and have a lot of fun… He then asked for a few new pieces to be written, which we did, ”he said.
Carax has inspired comedians such as Andy Kaufman and Lenny Bruce to develop Henry’s (Adam Driver) intimate, amazing, scary, and obscene drama. With Anna’s character, the director makes actress Marion Cotillard learn about the behavior of French-German actor Romy Schneider. Schneider’s interview in which he released confidence and risk at the same time served as the basis for Cotillard’s performance in the film.
Carax has also opted for lip-smacking in the music industry, with actors, in particular, simply singing their parts live during the recording. Finally, ‘Annette’ is a wonderful music film. At its heart, however, is an examination of human emotions. The director’s understanding of the emotional difficulty and his willingness to tell a person’s stories in depth removes the film. Believing play of the characters allows the audience to interact with the emotional story.
