Chicago, Illinois Location
Most of the house scenes in ‘Chicago Fire’ are recorded at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, which is one of the largest studios in the country outside of Hollywood, L.A. The family-owned company offers 32 non-noise segments that vary in size from 8,000 to 20,000 sq. M. Ft., With enough space to store ten props and production offices. Other notable studio credits include ‘Empire,’ ‘Shameless,’ ‘Widows,’ and ‘The Chi.’
Although the interior of Firehouse 51 is made inside the studio, the face of the firehouse is actually the Chicago Fire Department Engine 18, located at 1360 South Blue Island Avenue. The Firehouse 51 kitchen featured in this series is sometimes recorded locally and sometimes on a studio set. Lottie’s in Bucktown has been a recording studio for Molly’s Bar, but a photo-like studio has been created to avoid disrupting business in a real bar.
The Chicago Fire Academy was chosen as the location of the film and is located at 558 West De Koven Street. You will be glad to know that this is where the Great Fire of Chicago started in 1871. You can visit the basement that shows its history with a poster showing the scene and the vintage fire gear.
Another location is the University of Illinois in Chicago, a film-friendly campus, making it much easier for products to be made to record space.
