“The Expanse” ‘is one of the richest scientific myths out there. The foundation follows a group of heroes who fight unknowingly in the midst of fraud, which threatens the peace of the Cold War, not to mention the class equality and the extreme survival of humanity. With this show set for the future, we see how humanity has colonized the entire Solar System.
With Earth and Mars almost at war all the time, you can understand that much of the focus shifts between the two areas. Now, with the new season, the show has found a home with Amazon Prime, instead of SyFy where it started. In fact, there is another season in which everything is scheduled to be released again. The new season sees the spacecraft expand as the new planet, Ilus, is thrown into space.
With so many planets and space travel, the show is a visual pleasure. Well, you know there’s still time away from shooting in space. Therefore, you may wonder about the landscape on other planets. We are here to tell you about it, and to tell you about the places featured in the future world show, and their real-life counterparts.
The Expanse Tv Series Filming Locations
All episodes of ‘The Expanse’ were recorded in Toronto and Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. In fact, the recent season has used the same recording sites as in previous seasons, while introducing new sites to showcase different locations as space has grown. Naturally, with a series like this, green screens and CGI are needed, so Pinewood Studios in Toronto, Port Lands, has been used to record some scenes in ‘The Expanse’.
Before we get into the specification of photography sites, it would be good to explain how we plan to do it. Smart place, we have a studio and Toronto, for the most part. However, real-life sites are cleverly crafted into spaceships, with the help of clever planning.
As the recent season added a brand new planet, i.e., Ilus, we are splitting the recording studios into three major planets – Earth, Mars, and Ilus. In addition to telling you about the realities that are happening on these planets, we will also try to find out if there are other realities in space used for real life. Now, we come to the specification of The Expanse recording locations.
Ilus: Quarry Near Toronto
All eyes are on the planet as it is a bed of many actions in the new season The Expanse. Known as New Terra, the discovery of the planet threatened a state similar to the blood chase filled with blood. However, where exactly is Ilus in real life? The Expanse show, Naren Shankar, commented on what it was really like on set while filming Ilus scenes.
Workers decided to record a working quarry near Toronto. In fact, the area is about an hour and a half from the city. However, in practice, workers can take drone shots of this area, and the adjectives used to describe it include sarcasm, obscenity, strangeness, and otherworldly things. Obviously, it’s perfect to show off a new planet without the Sol System.
Shankar stressed that the vistas shots did not go through the cleaning and editing of the viewing results. The scenes we see are filmed on-site in the quarry and everything that happens has a positive impact and seems to be a real thank you to the natural light, or the absence of it. However, there have been some comments about the fact that The Expanse shooting site was not so pleasant due to the cold, but that is the amount of art the team and the characters were willing to pay for.
World: Downtown Toronto
This brings us to the world, with the highest number of important spots in the universe ‘The Expanse’. Among the real estate stands is the Experience Estates in Caledon East, which serves as the House of Avasarala and appears at the beginning of the exhibition. The UN plays an important role in the exhibition, as they face delegates from Mars, representing the world’s interests. The Expanse.
The buildings we see here include the UN HQ Annex, actually Roy Thomson Hall at 60 Simcoe Street, UN HQ offices, actually Corus Quay at 25 Dockside Drive, and the UN Building, which is Toronto City Hall at 100 Queen St W.
The Martians have their buildings here and the M.C.R. The Embassy, shown, is actually the Science Wing of the University of Toronto Scarborough. Similarly, part of the embassy is represented by the Humanities Wing at the same university.
The Assembly Hall is one of the most important meeting places for delegates from Earth and Mars. Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front Street West, represents this space. Other exhibits, including the New York Aquarium, were actually filmed at Ripley’s Aquarium in Canada, at Franklin DeGraaf’s house, filmed on 9 New Street, and Mao Estate, recorded at Parkwood Estate & Gardens.
Other Space Locations:
Ceres, an asteroid, has a facility where Miller got into an argument while drinking with Havelock. It is called the Distinguished Hyacinth Lounge. The actual location where the scenes were shot, is KintonRamen at 402 Queen St W, Toronto.
Tycho Station, the largest stage ever built on the Sol System, becomes one of the safest places since any attack here will have people from both Earth and Mars, looking for blood. There are some places you are interested in here, including Tycho Station Nightclub and Tycho Station Bar. In fact, the former Government Entertainment Complex located at 130 Queens Quay E, represented these institutions. Since 2015, the real-life space has been demolished.
