Finnish director Renny Harlin (‘Die Hard 2’) presents the most entertaining and terrifying film in the films Deep Blue Sea. Incorporating a stellar cast Samuel L. Jackson, starring Stellan Skarsgård, Saffron Burrows, starring Stellan Skarsgård, and painted with a comic touch, the 1999 movie is shown in popular culture as an entertaining case. The story focuses on a team of researchers who transform sharks into genes to develop a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, which is a good reason.
However, as a major decline in their experiments, sharks become as intelligent as humans, if not more so. When sharks plan to take down their human captors, this situation becomes a nightmare. Contrary to ‘Jaws,’ sharks are quite visible, and much of the story unfolds in the underwater facility. You may want to identify the areas where the ‘Deep Blue Sea’ was shot.

Deep Blue Sea Movie Filming Locations
‘Deep Blue Sea’ was recorded in parts of Mexico and the US. Recording began on August 3, 1998, and ended on November 5 of that same year. The Deep Blue Sea movie is set on a research board in the middle of the ocean, but you’ll be surprised to learn that most of the film was shot in a famous studio. Without further ado, let’s move on to some of the places where the movie was filmed!
Rosarito, Mexico
Most of the Deep Blue Sea movies were filmed in a studio set up in Rosarito, a coastal town on the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. The director and his team filmed a lot of external sequences and other internal scenes at Fox Baja Studios (now Baja Studios), a movie production facility known for its large water tanks and voice recording stations. The production unit ‘Deep Blue Sea’ has built the movie sets above the 20th Century Fox water tanks built for James Cameron ‘Titanic’ movie theater. ‘
Some sets are designed to be completely submerged, while others, like the underground lab where the shark snatches Jim’s hand, are created in watery sections like windows. For obvious reasons, the director has chosen to use animatronics and CGI sharks instead of real ones. Interestingly, the animatronics sharks were longer feet than the 25 creatures used in the ‘jaws.’
Commenting on the experience, Jackson recalls, “When they first introduced us to the lab we were all amazed at the size of this machine […] It was a real beast. I walked up to it and took a moment to touch it and they said it sounded like a real shark. The criminals were on the move and sometimes had their own ideas. ”
California
Additionally, parts of the Deep Blue Sea movie were filmed in various parts of California. San Diego, a beautiful coastal town overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is where the first few scenes were recorded. A famous recording studio, the city is known for its lush parks, beaches, and tropical climate.
The conclusion was finalized later in production, which forced the director to restart some of the final scenes. Staff began recording another day at the fish tanks at Universal Studios Hollywood, the cinema-based production center at 100 Universal City Plaza in Hollywood, California.
The Bahamas
After wrapping up the recording in Mexico, the director took his team to the Bahamas, a dreamy island country in the sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean, to film a few sequences. In some parts of the movie, crews use real sharks to record. Scenes containing real sharks were only filmed in the Bahamas.
