When the actors and staff are not busy walking or sunbathing on the beautiful islands of Fiji, they return to New Zealand to film the entire program. Some of its features have been filmed at The Lula Inn, a South Pacific restaurant and bar on the coast of downtown Auckland. A few episodes of the second season with a speed dating cycle were shot there.
Apart from Auckland, other parts of New Zealand’s North Island region have also been incorporated into several states. The contestant Alexandre Vaz released photos of himself walking around the Mercer Bay Loop area west of Auckland and Warkworth, north of the famous North Island city.
Fiji Location
The Heartbreak Island show is well documented in Fiji, a country inhabited by more than 300 islands. Its beautiful beaches lined with a palm line serve as a perfect backdrop for men and women in their 20s looking for love. The show tried not to comment on the details of the recording, but when ‘The Bachelor’ star Matilda Rice, who co-hosted ‘Heartbreak Island,’ appeared to be cooling off at sea, rumors began circulating on the internet.
The speaker added that they were looking for a hot spot where they could record ‘Hebrebreak Island,’ making Fiji the ideal destination. Actors and crew travel to many of the resorts and venues that eventually featured in the game. One such event took place at Musket Cove Island Resort & Marina, located on the Manuka Islands off the west coast of Fiji. Season 2 winner Ceejay Smart posted a photo of herself on the series.
The production company also thanked the Governments of Fiji and New Zealand for their support, in particular the New Zealand Film Commission, Film Fiji, and the New Zealand Government’s Screen Production Grant. A spokesman for TVNZ and Imagination TV said the production of each season lasts about six months, during which six weeks are set aside for recording on the Pacific island.
