Jungle Cruise Production
In August 2015, it was declared that Walt Disney Pictures was rebuilding its adaptation to the film based on Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson. The original text by John Norville and Josh Goldstein was to be rewritten by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, and a film produced by John Davis and John Fox, with the aim of going back to the roots of its time. In April 2017, Johnson expressed his desire for Patty Jenkins to direct the work, but in July 2017, Jaume Collet-Serra was declared as the film’s director.
In January 2018, Emily Blunt was declared the lead actress. In April 2018, Édgar Ramírez and Jesse Plemons were added to the cast as rebels and the former man “had a conquistador background”. In May 2018, Paul Giamatti was cast to expose the “crusty harbormaster. In June 2018, Quim Gutiérrez joined the cast to expose one of the villains.
In December 2018, it was reported that Whitehall’s character will be gay and will have a play coming out of the film with Johnson. This could be the second incident of a gay character in a Disney film in use, the first being Le Fou, starring Josh Gad, in preparation for Beauty and the Beast in 2017. There has been a shock in the report, with some online expressing outrage at a straight man being thrown as a “camp” character.
