The Suicide Squad is a United States superhero movie based on the DC Comics team with the same name. Produced by DC movies, The Safran Company, and Atlas Entertainment and set for distribution by Warner Bros. Photographs, intended to be an independent sequel to the Suicide Squad 2016 and the 10th movie in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Written and directed by James Gunn, the film features a group that includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi. In the film, a group of arrested suspects is sent to spend time in prison and a Nazi-era laboratory.
David Ayer was due to return as director of the Suicide Squad sequel in March 2016, but in December he chose to make the film Gotham City Sirens.
Warner Bros. is in charge of a few directors who will take over before hiring Gavin O’Connor in September 2017. He left in October 2018, when Gunn was hired as a writer after being temporarily fired by Disney and Marvel Studios as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).
He was confirmed to be directing the Suicide Squad in January 2019 and was inspired by the movies of war and comedy the Suicide Squad.
The film includes some returning members but tells a new story that is different from the narrative of the original film. Recording began in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2019, and was completed in Panama in February 2020.
The Suicide Squad is expected to be released at the HBO Max theater and broadcast in the United States on August 6, 2021. The peace-maker, a television series starring Cena, is set to first appear on the HBO Max in January 2022.

The day after his appointment by Warner Bros., Disney decided to reinstate Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
He discussed his new commitment to DCEU with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who encouraged him to “make a great movie” and agreed to delay production at the Guardian until Gunn completed his Suicide Squad sequence mission. In January 2019,

The topic was raised by Gunn as a joke, but the management at Warner Bros. loved us. At the time, Gunn was in the process of directing the film, which was described as a re-enactment rather than a direct sequence that would take the franchise in a new way and create new characters.
